The Secret To Getting A Perfect Smile

How Veneers Can Give You Stunning Pearly Whites

Have you ever wondered exactly how to get that perfect smile you’ve been dreaming about for your entire life?

We’re going to let you in on a secret, the solution is veneers. Not sure what these are? No problem, we’ll explain in our complete guide right here.

In cosmetic dentistry, veneers are thin shells custom-crafted to permanently fit the surface of your teeth. Veneers can be used to mask discolouring or change the shape and positioning of teeth in the mouth.

Generally speaking, veneers can last between 10-15 years. Since they are bonded to your teeth you really experience that natural look with the end result being a perfect smile.

The Kind Of Dental Problems Veneers Fix

Anyone can benefit from veneers but we are going to get into specifics. The types of people veneers are the ideal solution for are:

  • Those with crooked teeth
  • Those with tooth discolouring and want permanent whitening
  • Those who have gaps in their teeth
  • Those who have chipped or broken teeth
  • Those with short teeth who want them lengthened

The Advantages Of Veneers

One of the many advantages of getting veneers fitted is an incredibly white smile. Years of smoking, eating sugary foods or drinking coffee takes its toll on your teeth. The enamel becomes stained and what was once white can become yellow. Permanently whitened teeth are an advantage veneers have to offer.

A second advantage is the camouflaging of crooked or gapped teeth. The way veneers work is that they are placed over your natural teeth. Behind the scenes your teeth will still remain crooked or have gaps, however, nobody is to know that unless you tell them.

Porcelain veneers are highly durable and also very difficult to stain. This is due to the material they are made of (mainly ceramic glass).

Porcelain Or Composite Veneers?

At Dental Options we provide veneers made of two types of material, porcelain or composite. Each type has its own benefits and is suitable for specific situations.

With composite veneers these can be done in one visit and sculpted at the time of placement. With porcelain veneers, these are done in two sittings and the process takes 2-3 weeks. You will receive temporary veneers following the first visit to our clinic until the real ones are ready to be placed.

Composite veneers require less tooth structure to be removed than porcelain. They are most effective when smaller changes are needed, such as chipping, discolouration or minor misalignments of teeth.

Porcelain veneers can fill a much larger space in between teeth and are very difficult to stain, unlike composite. With composite veneers, more maintenance is required as they are not as durable as porcelain. If you are unsure on what type of veneer to choose you should consult with your local cosmetic dentists.

Dental Veneers Procedure

Resin-based composite veneers are generally done in one sitting and the latest materials and techniques are used to match the correct tooth shade. It tends to be a pain-free process, so the use of anaesthesia is not required.

Some of the outer enamel may be removed in a sitting for porcelain veneers. This is to ensure the veneers can be fitted with the same thickness as the enamel removed so the tooth stays the same size.

An impression of your teeth will then be sent to a lab to prepare for the veneers. This takes several weeks. When you arrive for your second visit in cases of porcelain veneers your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned before placement. A special cement is then used to attach the veneers to your teeth.
